Adirondack Energy is a company that prides itself on not only being locally owned and operated, but a true family endeavor. Three generations have been a part of the business! We decided to sit down with Bruce (the third!) to get his point of view on the family business and to get to know him a little bit more.
Adirondack: How long have you been involved with Adirondack Energy?
Bruce: Well, I have been involved since I was 12 years old in one way or another. But I started in what you could say is "Full Time" in 2012. But I've been involved for basically twelve years.
A: Can you explain, in your own words, what you do?
B: (Bruce looked at me with a smirk -- we both knew it would be hard to answer that question succinctly -- but he was a good sport and tried anyway) Right now I'm focusing on sales and growing the company while providing the best service. I'm looking toward the future and expanding the business, but working with people to ensure that we keep the family environment while we grow.
A: What is your favorite part of the job?
B: You know, nothing is the same ever. It's not repetitive by any means, and I learn something new every day and get to meet new people all the time.
A: A bit more about yourself, what three traits would you say define you?
B: Hmm, I'm a hard worker. Comical (almost on queue, he said this while laughing). And I'm dependable.
A: We know you love what you do, but what are some of your hobbies outside of work?
B: Mostly sports, but hanging out with friends and travelling are all things I like to do.
A: Travel! What is your favorite place to travel?
B: Definitely St. Pete Beach in Florida.
A: And where would you most like to visit?
B: Ireland. I've always wanted to go. A lot of my mom's heritage is from there, and it just seems like such a cool place with the pictures you see and the history it has.
A: What is the one thing you can't live without?
B: My family.
A: What is your favorite book?
B: Honestly... it's the Wall Street Journal.
A: Okay... so what's your favorite movie or television show?
B: Movie, definitely The Godfather. For a TV Show, The Peaky Blinders. (Bruce had to explain to me what this was because I had never heard about it!).
A: Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
B: Hmm... I collect shoes.
A: And finally, what is something you want to share that we haven't asked yet?
B: I love working for the family business.
Next time you see Bruce (he works in both the Plattsburgh and Malone offices), make sure you say hello! And check out the shoes he's wearing that day! :)
