About this time of year, after a long winter with lots of phone calls, we finally can take a breath and reflect on the winter season. One of the things that we always find ourselves coming back to is how awesome our receptionists and customer service reps are at handling the phones during this busy time! They are usually the first person someone speaks with on their journey through service at its peak and without them our drivers & techs might just come to a halt!
A couple weeks ago it was Administrative Professionals Day and last week it was National Receptionists Day, so we thought it would be fun to interview Heidi King, one of our stellar staff who help things go round.
Adirondack: How long have you been with Adirondack Energy?
Heidi: One and a half years, it will be 2 years in October!
A: What is your favorite part of the job?
H: Definitely not the paperwork (she giggled on this part!). I like the people. Most people are polite and friendly on the phone and it's easy to be able to help them.
A: What is the most surprising thing that you have learned about Adirondack in your time here?
H: I think how close everyone is. It's still professional, but everyone gets along well. There's no tension like there might be in other offices... we're all friends here.
A: A bit more about yourself, what three traits would you say define you?
H: I smile a lot. I'm always in a good mood. And, umm... my height. Everyone notices how all I am, and when I wear heels, oh boy! I'm taller than everyone here when I wear heels.
A: And outside of work, what are your hobbies?
H: My kids like to go on walks. Pretty much anytime outside of work is spent with my kids... I do everything with my kids. So nature hikes, going to the park, things like that. For myself, I like to read.
A: What is the one thing you can't live without?
H: Pizza. It's my weakness; I can't give it up!
A: What is your favorite food? Actually, never mind.
A: What is your favorite place to be?
H: Outside. I wish we could move our desks here to the backyard! Maybe one day they'll get us laptops so we can work outside. (hint, hint)
A: What is your favorite book?
H: The Harry Potter books. I'm a geek. I'm lucky my husband is too!
A: So what is your favorite T.V. show?
H: The Walking Dead. I'm addicted, but it's driving me crazy that it's not on Netflix yet! (at this point we went off on a long tangent about the plots and some of the things we couldn't believe were happening in the story line... no spoilers!)
A: Okay, back on track... tell us something that might surprise us about you?
H: I guess that I used to be a smoker but I quit two years ago. (She looked at her calendar.) And actually... it was two years ago today!
A: Alright, cats or dogs?
H: Cats. They snuggle more.
A: Breakfast or lunch?
H: Lunch. I hardly ever eat breakfast.
A: And finally, what is something you want to share that we haven't asked yet?
H: My favorite color is green. (She pointed to her shirt as she said this).
So, the next time someone answers the phone at Adirondack Energy, you might just be talking to our very own Walking Dead loving, green shirt wearing, Harry Potter reading, pizza eating gal, Heidi!
